I never write movie reviews as I feel like the viewer should watch the movie to judge it, rather than read a comment about it. However, this movie had shaken me, excited me, made me lose my breathe, broke me and built me back up again. It was one of the best movies I had seen this year.
The storytelling is fantastic and the script was written so beautifully. This movie does a really good job at depicting the ending part of Japan in WW2. Which is a wonderful breathe of fresh air if I am being honest. While I do like the 2014-present Godzilla, after all who doesn't love a large lizard, the world that he is in can be boring. This mainly falls on the human character around him not doing too much of anything.
This movie, remarkably, does the opposite. Without getting too much into the plot of the movie for spoiler sake, the human characters make this film interesting. As I mentioned before, this movie takes place in WW2 and the characters in it each have their own things going on because of that. Which makes all scenes in the movie, Godzilla or not, a tremendous watch.
I absolutely love the call backs to the original 1954 Godzilla, from the musical scores to Godzilla's roar. That being said I should mention the very anti-war message of this movie, which a. was the original theme of the movie and b. I love. I think that the more American Godzilla has forgotten this message, as it's a large lizard tearing down cities but also protecting humans. This Godzilla doesn't do that, as it is a monster that wants to destroy its own creation. He destroys and causes pain on purpose.
It's so good guys. If you have the time go watch it and if you don't, find the time to watch it. You will not be disappointed.
