I loved the costumes but some of the backdrops in terms of the buildings were a bit dodgy. I feel both actresses suited the parts well but Elizabeth could have had a bit more fire. History does not paint her as so compliant. I am disappointed at the way later years of Mary's life was rushed through. The abuse she endured from Bothwell the numerous imprisonment she suffered both in Scotland and England. She was portrayed to Elizabeth as more of a threat than maybe she was by people who wanted her gone and Elizabeth's reluctance to kill a fellow Queen wasn't dealt with very. The two things that spoiled the overall film for me was the dodgy Scots accent from someone who spent so long at the French court and the blatant rewriting of history by including a meeting between the two Queens. It is fairly well documented that they never met. I appreciate that these films are never historically accurate but let's keep it believable.
Having said all of that I still enjoyed the film and would recommend you go see it. If you're not a history buff it is a spectacular film and worth a watch.
