A warm, funny, well written, and performed movie about a grieving Israeli couple whose adult son died of cancer and they are sitting shiva. It gently enfolds and we witness how parent’s struggle to move on after shiva. Instead of the usual menu of emotions you’d expect this movie makes you laugh, think, feel, yet never manipulated. It has a few twists that get close to feeling contrived but they never cross the line and you never feel taken advantage of for liking the characters or the plot.
I don’t know anything about the neighborhood where the family lives but security seems an issue as they mention robberies, have a security system and a metal grate you’d see in front of a store closed for the night. The furniture and size of the home all indicate middle class status but I guess home burglaries are common in parts of Israel.
This is a movie worth watching more than once and I will enjoy doing so.
