Just ugh. It is such a shame really, as the first 'The Haunting of Hill House' was a complete hit, and such a cleverly done, 'easter-egg' filled adaptation of Shirley Jackson's cult novel. I think that Bly Manor had a lot to live up to, despite them being labelled as two different shows. If they really were two different shows, there would've been a new cast, a new plot, a new take on ghosts hidden within the mise-en-scene, as well as a new 'feeling' of the show. However, an audience received something that was bland, long, tedious, and dare I say it, not even scary. I think the acting was wonderful, and this is based in no way on any kind of performance, however what I think let the show down, was its incredibly slow place, tedious and mediocre scriptwriting, and just an all round 'meh' factor. Only watch it if you feel like you have to, or if you can sit through Episode 5 without turning off your TV in anger. I couldn't tell you how many times I played the episodes on fast forward, just for some action to happen. Not what I would expect from a horror series.
