Compared to the original, you notice a difference in the theme and tone. The original you can sense the patriotism in the making of the film. The remake seems cold and straightforward with revision history of after the facts. I got the sense it was trying to give a different point of view. I found the engagement scenes not well done but more focused on the dialog than the accuracy of actual timed events.
