This show is still my #1 favorite show. Cartoonist Matt Groening has created a masterpiece, of a typical 5-person family home.
The Simpsons starts out with Bart Simpson, a typical 8 year old boy, and my favorite character of all time (not counting Jake Peralta or Jim Halbert.) Bart Simpson is a funny, simple boy who is very mischievous and makes the show funny and entertaining at every second.
Then, there's Lisa. If you want a mischievous young boy, you HAVE to have a smart younger sister. Lisa is a young overachiever girl, and having a smart young girl and a (sort of) dumb, mischievous young boy balances out, and as a result, the show is even more entertaining.
Then, there's Homer and Marge. Just like Bart and Lisa, Homer and Marge balance out. Homer is a daft but caring and doting father (and he is also just like Bart, very mischievous), and Marge is a doting mother who cares deeply for the family and is in general a great mother.
Then, there's my favorite baby character of all time- Maggie Simpson. Maggie is sort of a combination between Bart and Lisa- Maggie is very mischievous, but she is also somewhat smart.
After all the characters that make the show good, the rich plots in each episode make the show even better. In every episode, there is the main protagonist, who has a problem. During the climax, the protagonist has an even bigger problem, but at the end, the protagonist finds a way to resolve the conflict, and the episodes end happily. One good example of this is The Simpsons, MoneyBart (S22, E3). MoneyBart begins with our protagonist- Bart Simpson-, who just finds out that Ned Flanders is quitting his role to coach Bart's baseball team. Then, Lisa decides to coach Bart's team because in order to get into her dream college, Lisa needs to play sports. Lisa uses statistics to lead Bart's team into repeated victories. However, in one game, Bart disobeys Lisa's orders to not hit the ball, however, Bart disobeys her orders, he steals 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in a home run, and Lisa kicks Bart off of the team.
Later, Lisa needs someone in her team because Ralph got all "juiced up", and Bart decides to help her, and the episode ends happily.
