A bit of a slow start but all in all a decent film and mostly fun. The tried and true Syfy trope made up the basic plot but I personally feel that the humor was completely intentional. The science couldn't withstand much scrutiny but it wasn't intended to do that. The moon as hollow is right up there with a flat earth so it's possible the film was intended to be a bit tongue in cheek social comment on our current reality filled with socal media conspiracy theories.It was a fun movie with beautiful fx . If you like Day After Tomorrow or something like Armageddon you'll love this.. it's definitely a fun throwback style movie

Chewetel Ejiofor is simply amazing and I love that this continues the story with the shared destiny of both species. Excellent cast but especially Ejiofor. The alien could be a future or a memory, the ghost which the human species could become. All of those unhappy with the casting of Bill Nighy should be aware that in real life he is a year younger than David Bowie. Maybe Newton chose to appear as an older human in order to convey something of the human condition.

I saw this back in the 80's and loved it. Others on here thinking it took place in the 80's misunderstood, it's more of a dystopian near future of that era.

Wonderful piece that provokes thought as opposed to entertainment. I noticed some of the reviews thought this was about bad parenting. I have had dealings with a real life sociopath. They mimic emotion without truly feeling it. The father didn't see because he hid his true nature in front of him. The mother knew something was wrong but couldn't pinpoint what. He revealed himself to her but she was in denial. There is no cure for sociopath behaviour. The mother is a victim who blames herself.

Everyone seems to refer to the Christian part of the allegory. There is also Judaism and Greek mythology. If Jennifer Lawrences' character is mother earth she is Gaia and her child isn't necessarily Jesus but one of children of Gaia, one being Zeus. I thought it was a wonderful thought provoking movie with many more aspects than the obvious Judeo/ Christian theme.
