I’m becoming increasingly frustrated with the garbage that is coming out of Hollywood to the point that I’m ready to give up on movies altogether and put my investments (time and money) into shows and series as it seems that’s where the creativity is going.
I was really looking forward to this movie for multiple reasons: Michael Keaton is a great actor and has almost never disappointed (the other original Beetlejuice, The Other Guys, etc) and after Stranger Things, I couldn’t help but l cheer for Winonna Ryder after seeing her in a whole new light!
The movie starts out interesting enough and Michael Keaton is spot on with his character. The acting is there, it’s almost always there it’s the damn writing that is just so terribly disappointing and off-putting. Without spoiling the movie for those who haven’t seen it, I will say there are a handful of funny moments but overall it has a feeling of being forced and there’s a weird singing/musical scene that I honestly kept wondering and couldn’t wait for it to end. It was painfully longer than I would have liked mostly because it just didn’t fit at all: the music selection itself didn’t jive and the scene felt like they were trying to lean too much on the original Beetlejuice. Everything about it was just out of place.
The previews for upcoming movies don’t fair much better… I can honestly say there is coming out worth watching at the theatre, wait for it come out to HBO or Netflix and that’s such a letdown. I guess the days of planning date nights with dinner and a movie have become nothing more than a nostalgic memory of a happier time. SMH
