Can I just say, I loved this movie! I’m a huge Heathers fan, if you’re wondering why that’s important Mean Girls was actually based off Heathers, except it’s in the 2000s and there’s no blood, haha. I also loved the musical, so I decided to give this a watch. I first watched it a couple weeks ago and honestly, loved it.
First of all, Regina George, Gretchen Wieners, and Karen Smith were such enjoyable characters because they were such stereotypes of typically mean girls (skinny, pretty, seemingly perfect, loves pink and being feminine) and the movie perfectly demonstrated that. Obviously, in shows where middle/high school is shown, at least one part of it is exaggerated. Schools don’t and won’t exactly have chaos like that once someone discovers a “Burn Book” but it was hilarious. Plus, the media and a lot of people talk about middle and high school like that, so I found that to be enjoyable.
My favorite character probably had to be Gretchen, and I don’t want to bring the musical into it since sometimes musicals make characters totally different, but I feel like Gretchen’s character in “What’s Wrong With Me?” from the musical is totally demonstrated in the movie, and I find that to be such a relatable quality.
The movie definitely displayed just how toxic some friends can be and how quick they are to turn on you.
In my opinion, Mean Girls is one of the best movies of all time.
