(SPOILERS) I don't like the inconsistency. Either make it completely it's own thing, or honor the old by continuing the story line with the Skywalkers and the other Jedi who went before. Like, Anakin and Luke were, in the end of the original 6, the heroes. We knew their story and saw them rise up to defeat evil and become good. Now the guy they supposedly teamed up to destroy is back, and they throw the only Skywalker left to help destroy him in a pit and it's his granddaughter who ultimately destroys him as the entire Star Wars legacy looks down from heaven and says, "Well, we just couldn't do it, but maybe you can."
