I thought I was done with the superhero gente but this is a refreshing new take. Great characters, story and acting. I know some will hate it for the wrong reason, like Acolyte, but it was well worth the view.

The movie is at its best when the focus is on the exceptional scenes on the ship and in Mission control. When the increasingly annoying plotlines turn to the teenage angst by the daughter (Lex), the plot and character interest falls off the cliff. Yes, I understand it advances the character development of Emma (Hillary Swank), but it is annoying robs the viewer of the much more rewarding interplay of the characters and actors who make up the Atlas and Mission Control. Still, I do not regret spending my time with this series. Great acting.

I know this movie touched on many cliches of Southern injustice but what make it fresh is not only the performances of Foxx and Jordan, but also the avoidance of creating the Rod Steiger-ish "In The Heat of The Night" characters - they exist but now in more polite forms which is close to the truth.. Highly recommended.
