I watched this as a college student as practice for learning Spanish. Wonderful movie. It was easy for me to understand with what language skills I have, and the story overall was SUPER fun and interesting. It does a lot to expose audiences to not just Mexican Folklore, but also more cultural aspects. The opossum talking about "made in Mexico" got me a good laugh.
Sure it's a basic environmental message, and doesn't 100% accurately portray fracking.. but it's also a kids movie with talking animals. Awesome incorporation of indegenous cultures, but also some of the blending of Mexico today. It even addresses police brutality briefly.
If you have an interest in Mexican and Central American cultures, and also are able to appreciate that you may not be the target demographic, give it a watch!
