Interesting series!!
Although, occasionally, the background music changes to modern electric guitar and jazzy snare or bongos to current thumping boombox music. This cacophonous music interrupts one's ability to suspend disbelief and the engagement with the moment deflates like a bad soufflé, thus the 4 star rating. Period music or a close proximity throughout would enhance continuity with the period drama. The music is so off-putting, that at times, one wonders if a serious moment is supposed to be comedic. The incongruous music almost feels as though someone is holding up an audience reaction sign, such as "laugh," "clap," "feign tension," etc.
Additionally, the storyline tends to lag and needs more cohesion and a bit of a push to maintain interest. Characters appear and seem to possibly have something to add to the rising action, but these characters quickly disappear, along with their point, and it may take several episodes to reveal the purpose of these characters, or the fact that they had nothing of note to add and are just fluff. Again, supporting a rating of no higher than a 4 star rating.
