I loved this poignant film and all of the beautiful emotion the actors displayed that made me feel I was inside her head, feeling all of her pain. I was, however, confused by the ending. Some reviews I read mention the strange sense of positivity Lara exuded at the end of the movie and assumed this was the result her happiness with result she achieved by the severe action she took. I believe the ending was farther into the future and reflects how she grew into a woman after her gender identity was completed. Look at her hair...it was cut to a shorter style and suggests she is different and more confident in her newly achieved sexuality. Sure, it’s strange that the last scene directly follows the hospital ordeal but if you look carefully, much time has passed after the hospital and Lara’s face is glowing, reflecting new found peace. Beautiful work, beautiful, heart breaking story.
