Love this film , for its time the surfing cinematography is incredible , the story of Bear having to give in to times changing , the story of friendship between these people especially with the Vietnam draft makes it relevant to whats happened/happening in recent times , its the message of friendship that i found extremely good , regardless when a film is made and can be called dated in some areas if it brings out an emotional reaction , and this film does , its a bloody good film

Loved it , great humour in a dark story of a very dysfunctional family , the choice of actors are perfect and not a big budget film , I liked the fact that this Family deliver carnage to a sleepy French Town yet you want them to come out on top , very tongue in cheek and great writing , id recommend it to anyone having a quiet night in , its not the Godfather or Goodfellas lol but still enjoyable

Wouldve liked Sean Beans character to have been a bit more than it was also the bond or lack relationship with his children as there all not under the influence of being desensitised yet hiding it , Christian Bale as always gives a great performance and a great supporting cast , for a low budget film it gives a high class finish , great ideas& cinematography , action scenes are excellent , a very underestimated film , i really enjoyed it

At its time it was years ahead for realism , the dialogue between the two main characters is amazing adding to the feel of the film , an incredible insight into how New York was in general in the 70s especially the heroin situation & social decline of that City at that time , amid all the corruption on both sides of the social scale these 2 rough edged definitely not perfect individuals with a sense of right made a difference , truth is always stranger than fiction
