Full disclosure: Elias Bower is in my family tree so I was very keen to read this book. I grew up with tales of Uncle Eli and his great detective skills but knew almost nothing about the man himself. I was thrilled to read about his ancestry & it was especially good to learn about his children and his wife’s family. There was so much more to this man than just his amazing career. This book fills in the gaps and you can see how he grows from childhood then into marriage and fatherhood. We thought Eva was his daughter but now we know she was his wife’s niece. We had no idea about all the little family secrets. The Blaineys played such a huge part in his life but we never knew! This was a really good story and was told very well. I loved it and I laughed and cried all through it.
