Any creative endeavor should be lauded, but it should also be noted that not all work, despite effort or time put into it, can be good. And Trese is not good. Animation quality is below mediocre because the frame count seemed very low and many shortcuts such as artificial pans and zooms were taken to save time and cost? the writing is unexciting and seemed stilted.
The concept and worlding is ok but toothless, in the sense that it can be difficult to suspend ones disbelief when dealing with creatures and monsters from Philippine folklore due to the sad fact that many of the country’s societal problems are much more monstrous and uncanny.. how can there be aswangs and monsters when the Filipinos themselves are the most monstrous , especially to each other. Sana totoo nalang itong mundo ng Trese, the reality of Trese is utopic, a garden of eden and boring compared to the unsettling and very sad reality of the Philippines.
I understand the point Trese is making and that it needs to be made especially in today’s climate but I really believe people are much more intelligent and discerning and can appreciate more nuanced takes on societal, political, cultural matters, rather than Trese’s black and white world of good is good, bad is bad.
A good start but hopefully both the craftsmanship and the discussion can be elevated.. even kids are more discerning that these kinds of shows, comics, assume them to be. Stop sermonizing, and maybe ask more questions.
