I think the show really highlights the subtlety that grooming can take on. It’s not just a guy going up to a girl at a bar and telling her how pretty she is. It’s a teacher who may not have sought out the student, but added fuel to the fire, and ultimately took advantage of the situation, and Eric. It didn’t happen overnight, the grooming that is. It can feel like love, but it’s missing the care outside of control. If they only care when you do what they want, that’s not love. I’m glad they showed that progression over multiple episodes instead of rushing it. Lastly, I like the different roles that Eric’s friends played throughout, and the vulnerability of them when they found out the truth. Not many shows show that side, especially with teenage boys. It’s important for people to see that teenage boys can be groomed too, and it’s not ok.
