Michael Peterson should not have been convicted. In our justice system it doesn’t really matter if a person is guilty or not. The prosecution has to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Even if the defendant is weird, shady, eccentric, and overall not a very likeabke person... does not prove they are a murderer. Because of the scene of this death and the suspicious circumstances and the charactor assassination of this man, it is easy to jump to a conclusion of guilt. However, There are a lot of reasonable doubts. The prosecution did not prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He very well may have done it, I don’t know. This is a tricky one.. I think the owl theory is very interesting, and definitely a real possibility. At the very end when Michael plays (apparently his favorite song) “everybody knows” was very suspicious.... very.. but he is a very odd person with a weird sense of humor too.... The cops, DAs, and most people automatically assume it is murder in trials. In almost every murder case. The person was charged so they have to be the one: It must be. It has to be. Automatically assume the worst of people. That says a lot about ourselves.

Men (especially white men) accused of a sex crime are guilty until proven innocent. Prosecutors no longer have the burden of proof, defense attorneys do. Proof of innocence. There is no longer reasonable doubt or presumption of innocence. If you are charged with a crime you are guilty. If the police arrest you, you are guilty. Hell if someone accuses you of a crime you are guilty. I love at the end of the first season when Buting says if you are accused of a crime in this justice system, good luck.. he could not be more right.
