Hindi fiction writers in India and abroad are well conversant with the contribution of Edgar Allan Poe to the genre short story. It is believed that it was Poe who first started writing short stories in the modern day style and is the pioneer in the field. It is also accepted that Allan Poe's stories motivated Indian Hindi fiction writers to mould their stories in the way he moulded.That's his great contribution,I think apart from the merit contained in his own stories.A wonderful writer and his contribution is all the more important for paving the way for fiction not only in his own country but in India and other countries also.

Earnest Hemingway has been my favourite novelist/Story writer as he delves deep in to the recesses of the characters and brings out the throb of the common man in the most suitable words.Cat in the rain is a classic and makes a wonderful reading.Hemingways' stories ae replete with emotion and vision at the same time.One can not claim oneself as a fond fiction reader if one has not read Hemingway.That's my personal opinion after having read most of his novels and stories.
