Probably one of the best movies I've seen that communicates the real horror of war. Too many movies are quick to have heroic ending whether the lead character lives or dies. This movie communicates horror of the human toll both physically and mentally that all sides goes through. Though a winning side is decided in war there really is no winner there is just the survivors and the dead on both sides. I could never explain how horrible war is in words to but this movie does it perfectly being the visual masterpiece it is. Young men dieing for old men's dreams. The cinematography is superb and masterful in its visual communication with both angles,action scenes and use of lighting that heightened the moments so much grabbing the watcher and pulling them into this masterpiece. I believe this film is far better and more emotionally gripping than a previous award winning one camera shot war movie. From the first scene of Paul getting his uniform I knew this was going to be an amazing movie.

It was ok at best. Predicted alot of the story as it played out. There was alot of common sense gaps I feel that kinda let it down but maybe I'm being too critical as it is a "horror" flick. I feel they could of done alot more. With a name like malevolent I expected it to be very scary but I can't see how the name even ties in to the movie. Fairly good acting for a horror was a plus side, some pretty believable relationships with characters. A couple of moments where pretty cool that made me sit up abit but still expected more from watching the trailer. Still worth a watch. Pos- reasonable acting especially the brother and sister, Nice colorgrade, some good moments that make you sit up more than jump. Neg- not a really a horror, takes ages for anything to develop, a bit lazy.
