I'm a writer and I don't use pretentious words to impress. The whole university bubble is something I've always found intolerable as it dismisses good writers for that one special student who turns her/his professor's head. Cairo's unhinged reaction to rejection is almost funny as all students eventually discover that rejection is a common occurrence in the real world. But the real world doesn't mean much in this odd tale as the poor little rich girl lives alone, in a spooky mansion on the edge of a haunted woods. Oh my! She's so unusual! I guess this was supposed to make her seem isolated as she spent her evenings writing dangerous prose? Every single female character in this script was over-sexed and incredibly cruel. Now I have no problem with that except the man they pursue and emotionally pummel is such easy prey. I mean, honestly ladies this sad cad is your main fare? Because to me he seemed like a tasteless snack.

I don't watch the show, never have as it seems ripe for emotional abuse. But this latest one which is constantly advertised on ABC and even on The View which I do watch is ridiculous. Older women should know better and have it more together than to willingly give their power over to a man they hardly know. (which begs the question, what do they really want out of the show? If it's love they won't know who they chose or who chose them until it's too late.) I've seen this before. Capable, accomplished, educated women who turn into 14-year-olds when it comes to dating a man. They are emotionally stunted still believing in a fairy tale at the age of 50. And the man? No way he's on the level. That should be obvious.

I started to dislike the younger woman's character as soon as she acted as if she'd earn the right to be a native American. Just because you have the horse skills, some color coordinated leathers (so silly) and long wildly coiffed hair isn't the same as knowing the culture or dealing with wide spread violence against your people. She came off as arrogant in her adopted persona. A few more years of cowboy life would have left her hair, skin and body not so pretty. The part I found silly, and there were a few, was that though everyone was dirty they all had super white, super straight teeth. All the women had coiffed hair, a little sexy messy. They were also model slim or willowy making them less likely to have been able to deal with such harsh condition. lt seems unlikely a person would have lasted long with liver damage and sepsis in such conditions.

Gosh, I don't recall watching so much nonspecific gore, which I don't like in films unless it makes some sense and is not just to sensationalized violence. I actually got bored and thought, when is the guy gonna die already? All the dark and barely visible scenes do not make a story. Heck, kids with a phone have done Halloween films of someone stumbling around covered with red food die and syrup, breathing hard, and repeated distant screaming. In fact, I started getting annoyed because it seemed a bit like lazy filmmaking. Hey, let's show lots of blood and guts oh and add him dismembering himself for the final scene. (he seemed weirdly fascinated with his own member, rolling it around like a well-done hotdog.) I watched this because it got a good rating. I have no idea why. If this is supposed to be found footage who the heck was filming? Also, the film Event Horizon at least has an actual story. Check that out. Or for a real mental freakout watch an older film called, Altered States. Much, much scarier and disturbing and you can actually see the scenes.

What the heck was the point of watching these totally hateful women? And right, the guy is gonna have more of a conscious and run away? At least the ending could have given us the satisfaction of seeing what happens or doesn't happen once the victim goes to the police. What also seemed strange to me is that the 2 Asian women (living in the neighborhood) would go to a store that they must have known is racist. Geez I'd never want to see another film with Olivia Luccardi in it. I would not be able to listen to her voice or get the image of her character out of my head. By the way, there was nothing soft or quiet about the film. Frankly, I think this is just another horror/torture film with bigotry attached.
