I have never done this before, but here I am. Why, you may ask. I had this sudden thought right now about how good this movie was (I watched it last year) which followed by a thought of how many people disliked this movie and that the movie didn't do good in the hindi movie industry. So I came here to the reviews and went straight to the 1 star ones. Every single one of them had one similar issue, the fact that it was JUST 1 thappad. Imagine if your sister/ daughter went through the same situation infront of you and you knew she did nothing wrong.
There was a scene when his boss asks him why did he hit his wife, when he could have hit anyone, afterall she wasn't the one in wrong when, the answer was obvious because he thinks of her as weak and she was the one who will bear it because it's her moral duty as a wife and after all it was just 1 thappad.
I am dead serious when I say I am not a toxic feminist. What's toxic is people explaining his actions by saying things like marriage is a forever bond. Things should have been the same if the gender was reversed and the woman would have hit the man with the same impact. One thappad was a start, she ended it before it became hell. She was a great wife and definitely doesn't get to get hit just because her man is in a bad mood. Also if you didn't notice, he didn't apologize right away, because he was convinced he didn't do anything wrong. I have gained a lot of respect for Anubhav Sinha who is providing movies like this (which people claim to be dramatic) instead of movies like Kabir Singh which was somehow the exact representation of true love according to people. This movie moved me and gave me a great perspective in life.
