Although John Malkovich plays the part so brilliantly.....If you have read the book he is just not big enough to be Lenny. The film is faithful to the book and is worth a watch, but I was somewhat disappointed with it.

This film was advertised as a comedy, which led me into watching it. However the story steadily draws you into the unexpected developments between the lives of the characters. There is some violence, but it does not dominate the film, and the conclusion of the film is rather touching. It is not a comedy. Well worth a watch. It has English subtitles, but if you are not keen on subtitles I would say that the dialogue tends to be short sentences, is not complicated and is easy to follow.

I always feel that the title of this film is a rather dull, but the film is a Western of its time with plenty of action. The thing that I always remember about it is the inclusion of some gentle humour, which always makes me smile. Gary Cooper is naturally as "cool" as any modern day star might attempt to be. An ideal story for a wet afternoon in front of the fire.

This is a pretty typical Western story as far as the characters go, but the filming of the chases along the mountain tracks make it well worth watching. Amazing location for the dramatic outdoor scenes.

Awful, in every way. What could have been a lavish and stylish production ends up as a jumble of jerky edits and far too fast-paced camera work.

Sorry, could not make it through this poor effort. Sometimes even predictable plots are funny.....but not on this occasion.

The theme of this film is very much in the Western style, but without the often over-done action of the typical Western, which I think gives it a more raw, realistic feel. Great panoramic shots of the Australian outback. The story is good with a dramatic conclusion. David McCallum in his pre UNCLE days looks a real youngster.

This is a classic that must be seen. It is the only film that I have been to in the cinema where the audience applauded at the end. That should be enough of a recommendation for anyone.

As a Hancock fan, and someone who would have loved to have been in the audience at a live recording of Hancock's Half Hour, I found this film to be an interesting contrast to the half hour shows; How can a comedian who is such a genius at delivery of lines and those little glances and smirks, fall so flat throughout a whole film? The plot is good and the idea has potential, but the Hancock magic is sadly lacking. If you enjoy Hancock, as I do, the film is worth a watch simply as a thought provoking exercise about how comedy works....or doesn't?
