Of all of the production of Melville's tale, this one captures many of the important elements of the narrative. Father Mapple's Sermon, the Quarterdeck scene, encounters with Starbuck. What is missing is the relationship with Queequeg and how it contrasts to Ahab's relationship with the whale. Gregory Peck gives a nuanced and thoughtful performance. Ishmael's performance and his encounters with Queequeg are the most serious deficits.
