Wow, amazing. I've read over 30 of Kings books. This is one of best work. Interesting that this and The Green Mile, both ”prison” related and non horror are towards the top of my list (It, The Stand, 11/22/63 up there too). Great story and characters, I knew what to expect having seen what is a superb film prior to reading the novella. Still a joy to read.
