My husband and I decided to watch this film even though its reviews were not tremendous, and felt quite rewarded. Michael Caine is.. well, himself (though with an American accent!) as Matthew, and is a perfect contrast to Clémence Poésy’s lovely, smart and endearing Pauline ~ but their friendship is entirely convincing imo and both thought-provoking and heart-warming, especially as a bridge in Matthew’s relationship with his son. It ends perhaps a bit abruptly, but realistically. A gentle and thoughtful film, and very worth watching we thought.. but not for people who demand a lot of action.
