Paper Mario: The Origami King.
Rating: 3.5/5
I have purchased this game and played it with an open mind. Worlds are great! Storyline is great! The characters, enemies, superb! The use of confetti to fill in holes, fun! Mario's folding hands to help moving on was awesome! I love it!
Now, let's talk about the battle system, I got the hang of it...for normal battles, but boss battles made it daunting and difficult. It didn't make sense to use arrows, if a player missed an arrow while grabbing an extra move, or attack power boost they lose their turn, I didn't get it. To figure our plan was timed and if you need more time, you had to buy time. Action commands were back, but it was kinda lazy. Players use "A" for everything. Jump, hammer, and guarding.
No superguard, joystick action command for hammer, no special abilities for Mario when completing a chapter, or collecting something that grants Mario a special ability, only Olivia are given abilities, etc. Then players pay the audience members to attack the enemy or give Mario boosts.
A majority of the Paper Mario fan base were hoping for a Thousand-year door battle system, partner system with their own HP, shared use of Flower Points (FP), badge (point) return, starpoints or something similar to give an incentive to actually battle enemies, but I was disappointed when partners did little to nothing during battles, players are only given coins after battles, no level-ups from battles. All attacks only on Mario during battles, and Sticker Star elements were used to add special abilities instead of badges.
I understand you guys like to try new things, but honestly, you should listen to your fan base. If you kept the storyline of this game, world's, and everything else I have mentioned at the beginning of my rating, and implemented the return of the battle system, along with badges, starpoints or something similar, and everything else mentioned and begged for before from the N64 and Gamecube Paper Marios (that we have been begging for since Paper Mario: Sticker Star) this game would have been a huge hit.
