A little bit rushed? Meh. But the movie is good. Don't listen to critics or those who aren't into comics. Venom holds it's own in the genre easily. It's a baseline set up film for the character and in my opinion done well.
Stepping aside from what we've come to expect from comic starter movies, I think this is a fresh take and a different feel. This isn't Thor coming to earth and learning how to be friends or Tony Stark building a suit because his conscience is eating at him. This is a guy who stepped too far at work and ruined his life because of it, and just wants to be left alone thereafter.
Unlike most superheroes and anti-heros, he didn't go looking to be the hero. He didn't want to save the world, nor did he become this because of a lost loved one. This film turns the corner on comic book movies and the usual set up of, "now you're a superhero, go out and save the world." The character is forced into a situation he wants to be far away from and in doing so, lays the ground work of who he will become. I give it an 8/10.
