A book I found at my high school's library, with a cover of little yellow stars and the shadow of a boy. I picked it up thinking it might be a fantasy book or maybe a simple young adult book that deals with high school relationships and dealing with school. Instead, what I got was a heart-breaking story that changed the way I saw people. I hadn't noticed it then, but my view of the world changed slowly since I read that book and learned that you shouldn't judge someone by how they look and how they dress. I was raised with the saying "You never know what's going on behind closed doors" or something similar in Spanish I can't remember, and I didn't take it seriously until I read this book. I cried with this book and so did my mom when I let her borrow it.
This book is not for the people who don't like angst or are incredibly uncomfortable with sexual assault and can't bear to hear about it or read it.
