★★★☆☆
Decent story, non-decent characters.
This movie does display the horrors of war and the Gallipoli Campaign in a good fashion. With soldiers anxious before rushing at the enemy Turks. The mood of the movie fits in with the story, a peaceful mood in Australia, a semi-cheerful mood in Egypt as the soldiers discover new places, and a depressing mood in Gallipoli knowing that you could die at any moment.
However, the characters were a bit stale and boring, thus they were pretty forgettable. The scene where the characters actually land in Gallipoli should have been emphasized, and the lighting should be darker as the ANZAC forces get shot in pitch black. The ending was also poor, as it was abrupt and the protagonist just DIES, ending the movie. The death could've also been emphasized, with a sunset and his silhouette, and a flashback of his family.
