Wow! It is heartbreaking for me to see "Luther" playing the part of the stereotypical "mammy role"(in this case "manny"). It's not new story at all, it is Hollywood's version of the "Black Saviour", in which the down-on-luck servant to a hire-powered, wealthy family becomes the friend and "the rock" that the family's socially maladjusted, slightly insecure, spoiled brat of a daughter leans upon. Then, of, course, mammy or rather "manny" doles out his homespun wisdom, shows them the error of their highfalutin, materialistic ways and ultimately saves them from themselves. They, in turn, are so grateful And because he is a "part of the family now" they give him a leg-up and help him chart his path for success.
