I was so looking forward to this movie. I love Tom Hanks and feel his mere involvement in a movie guarantees it will be an awesome movie. However, I was sadly disappointed. Tom Hanks acting wasn’t the issue...it was the story. I had expected a feel good movie about an amazing man who promoted kindness and compassion in an often cruel and confusing world. I found the movie to be slow, often dark and lacking in the positive feeling I had hoped to leave the theater with. Mr Rogers came across as kind of creepy, and the story was more about the reporter and his issues, which often left me feeling anxious and depressed. I also just didn’t feel that the reporter’s interactions with Mr. Rogers conveyed what a positive influence he could have on others. Mr Rogers seemed more creepy than influential and it wasn’t believable that any of their interactions could create the changes they were portrayed to create. If you’re hoping to learn about Mr Rogers, and his life and story....that’s unfortunately not what this movie is about.
