First, I will admit, when I first heard about Twisters, my first thought was "Oh yay, another unoriginal boring remake of a classic". Second, I must admit, I sure am glad that I let my wife talk me into going to watch this one!
Honestly, I had never heard of any of the actors except I remembered Glen Powell as the antagonist turned hero in Top Gun: Maverick. Throughout the movie, I felt like I was watching Luke Bryan on the big screen, but Glen pulled out that roll with little effort. I was a little skeptical of the Daisy Edgar-Jones character in the first few minutes but then she really pulled out a solid performance. I was told by my wife that Daisy played in Where the Crawdads Sing movie but, I didn't see that one.
From the first scene to the last, this movie had everything you could want: action, intensity, sadness, humor and everything in between. There’s even a touch of romance but it’s not overdone, at all. The romance is there but it’s actually quite subtle. The CGI of the tornadoes was wonderful (and tense) but the movie did not rely solely on CGI to be successful. The acting and storylines were way better than I anticipated, setting it apart from the original Twister classic.
Without saying too much more, I will suggest seeing it on the big screen. I swear you can feel the tornadoes coming at you. I think I will try IMAX next. I can only imagine what that experience will be like.
If it has one slight downfall, it's the people of Oklahoma, who live in Tornado Alley, don't have a clue about what to do in a situation where tornadoes are coming. It's like living in a hurricane area and not knowing what to do when hurricanes come. But, I got over that little minor plot flaw with ease.
Oh yeah, this movie will rank up there as one of those with a highly enjoyable soundtrack. When Lainey played, I got even more excited over this movie (but I’m partial to Lainey Wilson!)
