Captain Marvel was a pretty hollow movie about an overpowered female lead character who nobody wanted a movie about. It did nothing for the overall story of The Avengers and could easily be left out altogether. They neutered Nick Fury, minimalized the importance of the original Captain Marvel and robbed Captain America of the title of The First Avenger.
