(No spoilers just my opinion)
Look I’ll be honest, I’ve never played The Last of Us and am currently watching someone play through The Last of us 2, but here are my thoughts. It has to be mentioned that the graphics are mind blowing, it is one of, if not the, best looking games I have ever seen. In addition to this, the combat seems exciting, with good layouts and multiple ways to approach an area. However, these are smaller factors since the game is predominantly story based. The story isn’t very good. I have no problem with female characters or even them being lesbian or transgender (as long as they have other traits). I just want a compelling story, with well thought out characters that are relatable and understandable. The Last of Us 2 lacks this. The story might be okay, might be, if it wasn’t related to the story of the original Last of Us, but it is. It doesn’t build off of the first game, and ignores what made that game so good in the first place, character interactions (mainly between Ellie and Joel). Character dynamics in the second are mediocre at best. I think the sheer number of characters makes it hard to care for each one, and really hard to empathize with them for their actions. I like the concept idea of the story between the protagonist and the antagonist, it’s very creative and new. But, it doesn’t work with the last game.
What was done well-
-Graphics
-Atmosphere
-Combat
-Voice Acting
-Protagonist
-Concept of Story (the way the story is told)
What wasn’t done well-
-Antagonist
-Side characters around both Pro- and Antagonist
-Character Dynamics
-Plot/Story delivery (cool in concept, poor execution)
For games that have a better story/character dynamic I would recommend “Uncharted 4 a Thief’s End” (and the other Uncharted games), “The Last Us”, and “God of War”
I would like to restate, this is all my opinion. I have not played the game myself, but I am familiar with the story.
