There's a great monologue towards the end.. but they really should've taken out the entire magical society thing and made it just about the actual topic they're targeting.. It's about black people living their lives walking on egg shells for white people, and having to make white people feel good, to protect other black people... In concept, it's a great story to tell about life, but it feels severely undermined by the magical society part.. Could've easily been a cute rom-com where our main character also has to deal with our racist society.. giving perspective to people who may not realize it Loved it for the overall message, and cute relationship.. but wow it could've been formatted and written better

Just wanna add my review, because I angrily quit watching before the end of Episode 1 Season 2. All these positive reviews are incredibly weird to me, unless they're only talking about Season 1. Season 1 was good, but in the finale, all of the characters make incredibly stupid decisions, almost blatantly making an excuse for a 2nd season. Also, incredibly weird to have the "leader" be a human who doesn't know anything, and majority of the group to have super lackluster powers, especially alongside this incredibly powerful being that David is. Spoilers: The female Carrie constantly talks about wanting to fight people, but she has no superpower. She's basically Black Widow, but with no training, so she's terrible at fighting, and gets nearly killed every time. The leader, Melanie, goes off on a weird tangent, with the main character's girlfriend, Sydney, in Season 2, Episode 1, that the men around them keep leaving and come back and the women just have to act like they don't have feelings about it.. both of "their" men were forcibly taken every time they had left.. they're blaming them for being technically kidnapped.. Sydney basically implies this rationale to David, and says she's afraid of him leaving again, etc.. HE WAS FORCIBLY TAKEN... He literally created a mental room so that they could actually physically touch, and they're writing her as a weird clingy girlfriend blaming him for leaving, when he was literally taken by someone.. I'll give props to the actors, they did pretty good with such terrible writing. The only cool characters are David and Lenny.. but they write David as an idiot most of the time, and Lenny isn't in the show enough to be worth continuing. I can't watch a show where everyone could die, and I wouldn't care.. I just wanna watch Aubrey Plaza be a crazy evil mutant, but even that can't save this.
