An emotional roller coaster that plays off of well crafted dialogue and characters. This film went on from scene to scene with a repetitive nature. The beats are as follows: Question, Fight, Kiss, Love and back to the start again. A simple yet easy structure that got more and more redundant. I admired this film in certain and key aspects; Style, Character, and Dialogue. The style presented to the viewer is beautifully displayed. Every shot of the film felt like it’s own and showed a divide or unity between the two characters. John D. Washington and Zendaya played off each other very naturally. They showed how the struggle of a relationship can go from caring to disagreement. The harsh reality of that feeling when you truly care for someone yet the problems you two have with one another can re-emerge in any conversation with negativity and a distrust in words. But that’s love for them. Malcolm and Marie couldn’t grow apart but can easily have a war with words. Also many topics they talked about kept me engaged and interested. Every line spoken felt meaningful to each character. However, this wasn’t a conventional film, it was more of a theatrical truth of dysfunctional love. I can see it being easily lost with the causal viewer, but feel relatable to many. The film was good but not perfect nor bad.
