It had just the right amount of whimsy and deprecating self-awareness. It was made by someone who seems to have painstakingly researched every aspect of Barbie and her past, and who loves it all, even while holding up her flaws for the world to see. It was an ode to womanhood and to being human. The soundtrack was divine, as were the set pieces, but really the best thing (other than the directing) was the acting. The strange mixture of cynicism and romanticism can feel jarring at first, but once you surrender to the ride, what a wonderful ride it is!
