Just watched "Mamannan" on Netflix and I'm surprised by its content. The director mentioned that "Thevar Magan" had a profound impact on him and served as inspiration for this film. "Thevar Magan" is a cult film that delves into the role of caste in the lives of two individuals. In "Mamannan," the topic of caste is explored further, shedding light on the mistreatment of lower caste individuals in the political realm. The film seems to aim at conveying a message about the social inequalities prevalent in society.
Fahad Fazil and Vadivelu did an excellent job in their respective roles. However, I found some aspects confusing, particularly before the interval when Fahad asks Udayanidhi to sit but not Vadivelu. Technically, both of them are not supposed to sit together as Udayanidhi is the son of Vadivelu, and they belong to the same caste. Why Director wanted only Udaynidhi to sit? Is he Okay with that? This raises questions about the film's intentions and the message it is trying to convey to society. It may unintentionally create negative thoughts among the audience and perpetuate unnecessary caste-based perceptions.
The relevance of "Thevar Magan" in the context of "Mamannan" seems to lie in its influence on the director's storytelling and thematic choices. However, it's essential to handle such sensitive topics responsibly to avoid misinterpretation and promote a more inclusive and progressive society.
