I cannot believe I’m saying this because I never thought I’d like this book but here we are: it’s amazing. The writing is insanely descriptive. The dialogue is believable. I felt like I was there—smelling the smells, feeling the island weather, the storms—it was all so good. This isn’t like a horror horror book. I never was scared. But it was disturbing. Honestly, the description of the boys and their lives beyond the troop was the most disturbing part. I described the premise to my husband and he was like “You’re liking that?” and the answer is yes. I couldn’t put it down. One thing I really liked is the intermittent news articles and experiment transcripts that gave foresight into what was happening and left me wondering and guessing each page turn.
