The rundown is that it was just plain biased.
Sure, you can't expect much objective reporting, even if it is satire, from a Netflix show. But, the show presented itself as if it would be an authoritative and unbiased satire perspective on 2020, and it was definitely not what we got.
If you watch the film, you'll notice conservatives are all portrayed like radical conspiracy theorists. However, they have absolutely nothing to portray the average conservative, only the extreme. It would have been fine to have radical conservatism as a joke, if it were balanced with more reasonable conservative views - which I might add the more left ideologies and characters were. The result, analytically speaking, is that through portraying conservatives in such a degrading and unrealistic way, the mockumentary positions the lefter ideologies as naturally more authoritative. They seemed to mock the idea of conservative voices being silenced, without realising that they are, themselves, directly contributing to that silencing.
The bottom line is, it was not a balanced viewpoint on the events of 2020 at all, regardless of whether it was satire or not. I can say with confidence that this mockumentary is NOT what we need at the end of 2020. It only contributes to the polarisation created during 2020 - the exact thing it speaks against - by presenting 2020 in such a way. In fact, you can see it in the ratings; that is, how many five and one star reviews they are.
As a result, you will find that the commentary on the more lefter issues (like BLM) were absolutely supportive, and that there is hardly any mention of the counter-arguments to these events. When there was, they were completely shut-down with weak justifications and subjective opinions.
People can have their opinions, but I have no clue how someone could rate this five starts. Five starts would imply similar quality to movies like Schindler's List or The Godfather, and I'm sorry, this just is not on the equivalent level of quality for this genre. I can assure that at least some of the people who rated this five starts only did so because it agreed with their political ideologies, and reinforced how "right" they are. They certainly didn't rate it five stars because of how balanced a perspective it was.
Apart from the political biases, which were enough to put me completely off it, it was not funny. It is rife with cliche stereotypes - the conspiracy conservative being one. Thus, since it wasn't funny or entertaining, I hear you ask, what is the point of this mockumentary? Well, in line with the theme of this review, I would not doubt that it is a suspiciously political point. It seems the producers of this show must have consulted some Edward Bernays literature in making this film.
