(SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT YET WATCHED!) This movie was everything I had hoped for. I would first like to list the few things I did not particularly find necessary.
Vanessa’s appearance and her turning out to be William Afton’s daughter. No matter if you read the books or played the games, the lore indicates William only ever had one daughter named Elizabeth. As a small benefit of the doubt though, this is Blumhouse’s adaptation of the franchise, some inspiration from books and some inspiration from games, and LOOSELY based on the 2 so we can’t expect everything.
Abby. Very little is told of Mike Schmidt ever having siblings, but again this is a loosely based adaptation.
William Afton being the main villain behind the events of the film but having around 3 minutes of screentime in the 1 hour 40 minute movie. Such an important role gone to waste.
Now that I’ve listed my particular dislikes, readers can obviously tell I am a big fan of the FNaF franchise. I will now detail everything I loved about this movie. The animatronics were perfect. The pizzeria was immaculate in every scene. They really captured the feel of an abandoned, old restaurant. The Springbonnie costume was great as well. Overall, the design team definitely went all out for this, making sure everything looked top notch. The plot was, I admit, a bit strange, but it really feels like a game could be made around it which is good enough for my personal approval. While we could use more jumpscares, that’s not all horror is made for so I give that a pass. People were expecting more blood and gore, but I really don’t think that’s necessary. Also, didn’t they read the rating? No way is there gonna be heavy gore in a PG-13 movie. The amount of cuts, stabs, and blood, plus the deaths of the break in crew, was good enough for me.
Overall, this movie really captures the feel of Five Nights at Freddy’s. After multiple years of waiting and anticipation, it’s here and it’s amazing. Even with my dislikes listed at the start of this very long review, it has earned my 5 star rating because those weren’t TOO important to where they could diminish my feelings about the movie. Just simple things that could use some improvement for the next one, which I just know is gonna happen given the foreshadowing at the end where William Afton is locked up in the parts and service room, not to mention the constant Balloon Boy appearances.
Almost forgot to mention, the cameos of CoryxKenshin and MatPat were good. I predicted The Living Tombstone song being in the credits as well, which was the cherry on top of this movie by the way. Best video game fan song ever, in my personal opinion.
9/10 movie, would watch again, and would 100% watch a sequel. (which is inevitable as I previously stated)
