My issue isn't the actors, it is the drive behind the theme of the movie. I love Christmas, but this movie makes the couple feel TERRIBLE for deciding to forgo a single year of a traditional Christmas (even though they still are making their yearly donations to charities). They basically were being terrorized to conform when they decided to skip.
Then the movie tries to right the "wrong" because their daughter last minute calls on Christmas Eve, so they just HAVE to have the big party now. It didn't suddenly make the movie more meaningful. The whole thing just reinforces the stereotypes of the holiday. People shouldn't feel guilty for not spending over $6000 (the movie amount) on material items, or wanting to relax and enjoy the holiday. If their neighbors/friends want a Christmas party, perhaps they can step up and have it themselves (and see what it takes to actually hold such an event).
