4.5 stars. (A review months in the making)
I for research purposes watched Knight s of the Zodiac twice, once in english and once in japanese.
As a long time fan of the original series there were a few changes to the characters that I didn't like originally that almost turned me away from the remake (animation style changes, gender changes, americanization of names, simplifying certain parts of the plot, etc). But I gave it a shot after rewatching the original series and while the original series is still superior in just about all aspects I think the remake has done a good job over all in capturing the best points of the original 80's anime, at its heart this appears to be a passion project by it's creators and it really shows, in a good way.
The 3D instead of 2D animation threw me at first but as the episodes went on it grew on me. The animation is smooth and solid, especially in the action scenes. There are very few times you see 'glitches' or where the animation slides downward in quality- even these times you have to really really watch for and have that pause button ready since they last literal seconds. I only really saw issues on my second watch through because I was looking for things to pick at for a review.
As usual for other Netflix original Anime I have seen, the voice acting for both the english and japanese are amazing- there is really nothing more I can say about it- every actor/actress in both versions brought their best and slammed it out of the park with their performances.
On a side note to the voices:I really think it's great that even though I am sure they had to change the japanese voice performers from the original series (I haven't checked this fact but given how old the original is I doubt ALL of the original voices are present in the Japanese version of this if any of them) that the new performers have been able to sound so similar to the older series -really capturing the tones and vocal gestures of the previous performers that made breathed so much life into these characters to begin with yet also making these characters their own.
The music is also very well done. The show knows when let the scene talk for itself without the interference of outside noise and when to let the music play. The music itself is both modern yet faithful to the original score of the anime that inspired this show. (and the English version of Pegasus Fantasy used in the opening...OMG! I don't think there could have been a better version done!)
Overall I am glad I watched it and I am hoping for more.
As for the Original Saint Seiya Series. Yes it's old and can be a dated at times- it is STILL worth the watch. Overall it has aged exceptionally well. I compared the new Netflix English dub (which by the way THANKS NETFLIX for FINALLY providing a English dub from the Asgard Arc onward!!!) to my old Japanese Import DVD's and either my Dvd's were very low quality (Which could be, they are very old) or Netflix has done an amazing job of subtly restoring the video because the online version certainly looks fresher then the old release I have. It's noticeably cleaner, clearer and more vibrant then my DVD and sounds far better to. If Netflix ever released their version of the original on DVD or Blueray I'd buy it....just saying....
