It is hard to believe some people say things like: “as soon as you let go of the original versions of Mulan you start appreciating the film” How can you appreciate a film inspired and named after an original and you suddenly change everything that made the former version special?
It would have been best to just change the title to “the good daughter that had her father’s back”
You cannot sell a movie called “Mulan” and eliminate all the facts that made Mulan. Such as the grandmother, Mushu, cricket, the emperor’s assistant. It was tetric, dark, boring, and very dramatic. No fun at all or inspiring. The character was not even commited to the point of cutting her hair (which was something Mulan did) The film was heavy and not kid friendly.
Mulan never had a sister.
They portrayed her as a mischivious child when in fact she was a Woman that bettered each situation with her genius and wit.
None of the movie’s soundtrack were used. In the original version she fell for the captain which was young and handsome and in the newer version she fell for a soldier just like her. The character of the witch was added. It was not funny, inspiring or well acted. Complete dissapointment. I waited for this film being my favorite and it was not to part. Im just glad I never went to the movies and wasted my money on this.
