Many before me already have critiqued this novel well. I will not summarize the plotline. The book was well-written but left me feeling a little empty. I tried to connect with the characters, in particular, Maeve and Danny, but never did. I suppose I was left with an overwhelming sense of sadness that Maeve, in particular, never really lived her own life. The book was worth the read but don't look for something big to happen. It is a story of how everyone, 'minor' characters as well, who lived in the Dutch House remained trapped in one way or another by their history of living in that house.

Perhaps it's time to put the Lucy Kincaid series to bed. I found this story low on plot but high on hystrionics, ruminations, and the necessary recapping of previous Lucy Kincaid plot lines.
