I've read this book countless times in the past 40 years, never once feeling bored by the superb English. The Middle East was in turmoil after the disintegration of the Ottoman Caliphate and the Allied Powers lead by Britain was carving it out and distributing pieces to the mongrels under their protection. His description of the people in the Middle East of that age and the politics surrounding the establishment of Israel by the Balfour Declaration makes Muhammad Asad a witness to the duplicity of those involved.
