Herb Alpert was a person and Trumpet player who had a definite and positive influence on my life. As a child, there where kids in my neighborhood who could play the songs he recorded, and that was all it took for me to also play the songs like Herb, Pops(Louis Armstrong) and Doc Severinsen. But Herb was a master of tone, his sound was "sweet" when he played a song, offering almost a gateway to his soul because he always played with conviction, and his sound was never flawed. He was also a very smart businessman, having his own record label in the 1960's that would transition into the next Twenty years as one of the most successful record labels in the US and abroad.
