The Color Purple was the must see film of the year allegedly. The commercials for me were the best part of the movie. I left the theater extremely disappointed with what I saw. I think often times people are given a broad base of positive support just because of who is behind a project versus the level of excellence a project entails. I think going forward with watching some films it may be best to say somethings should be left untouched. The original movie did everything it needed to do and was just that of excellence. The remake looked rushed, and to my eyes it appeared to make a mockery of the seriousness of life learning lessons in the original project. If I could sum it up….Distasteful!!! There is no way this project should have made it to the big screen. I think this project should have been released on the OWN network free of charge. At least if it was on basic cable I would have been given the choice to turn the channel when I felt I had seen enough versus me remaining in my theater seat in a desperate desire to somehow feel the urge that I had received at least half of my money’s worth in watching it.
